ID Requirements

Before we can authorise your account, we will need to verify your identity.

Particularly, we need to verify your:
• name,
• date of birth, and
• Primary residential address.

We need to do this in accordance with our internal procedures, which comply with the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 in New Zealand.

On rare occasions, we may need to contact you to request additional information.

We are required to verify your identity through:

1. using electronic identity verification, or
2. receiving certified copies of your original identification documentation.

Electronic identity verification

An "electronic identity" is a record kept in electronic form that contains authenticated core identity information about an individual.

If you are resident in one of our approved countries, we can attempt to verify your electronic identity.

Currently, we may be able to do this if you reside in any of the following countries:

• China
• France
• Hong Kong
• India
• New Zealand
• Singapore
• United Kingdom

If our attempts to do this should prove unsuccessful, or if you should live in any other country, we will need to receive an original copy of your identification documentation that has been duly certified by an approved person.

Verification of name and date of birth

If you wish us to attempt to verify your electronic identity, please upload two scanned copies of your photographic identification.

This must consist of a scanned copy of one or both of:
• the photo page in your passport, and / or
• your national identification card.

You may upload a scanned copy of either your:
• driving licence, and / or
• other government-issued photo identification.

NB If you live in India, please upload a scanned copy of your PAN card or UID card.

Verification of address

If the identification documents you have supplied from the options above do not contain your residential address, then we will also require proof of address.

This can either be a recent utility bill or bank statement.

Receiving certified copies of your original identification documentation

If we are unable to verify your electronic identity, we must receive and retain original certified copies of your identification documentation.

The documentation required depends on whether you reside in New Zealand or overseas.

Resident in NZ

Either A or B or C:
A. Photo page in your valid passport; OR
B. Driving licence AND bank card (debit or credit); OR
C. Birth certificate AND formal photo identification issued by a national institution (e.g. government, university).

Resident overseas

Either D or E:
D. Photo page in your valid passport; OR
E. National identification card (currently valid, issued by a government authority and containing your photo full name and date of birth)

Address verification

Please provide us with an original or certified copy of a:
• utility bill, or
• bank statement,
showing your name and primary residential address, issued within the previous three months.

All identification documentation must have been certified as a true copy by either:
(a) any of our staff;
(b) any of duly authorised introducing brokers;
(c) a trusted referee.

If you are unable to meet with our staff or authorised introducing brokers, please:
1. send us two photographic identification documents from the appropriate list above; and
2. have the document certified as a true copy by a trusted referee.

Certification by a trusted referee

1. A trusted referee must be at least 16 years of age and authorised by law to take statutory declaration in the country where the customer resides. (Further people can be treated as trusted referees if the customer lives in New Zealand. Please contact our customer service team for further details.)

2. The trusted referee must not be:
• related to the customer;
• the spouse or partner of the customer;
• a person who lives at the same address as the customer.

3. The trusted referee must sight the original documentary identification and write a statement on the copy to the effect that the copy is a true copy of the document provided to the trusteed referee and, where applicable, the photo represents a good likeness of the person presenting the document to the trusted referee for certification.

4. Certification must include the name, occupation and signature of the trusted referee and the date of certification.

5. Certification must have been carried out in the three months proceeding the presentation of the copied documents.
